Empower Youth Network Key Leaders Summit

This past week, rising 11th grader Chris Paz-Mercado and rising 12th grader Adam Sanchez represented CHS on the student panel at the Empower Youth Network Key Leaders Summit. This event is an opportunity for Snoqualmie Valley leaders to network and engage in relevant community conversations, collaborations and actions. Community leaders had the opportunity to hear from a group of students, including Chris and Adam, as they shared their perspectives on youth social media use and mental health. Thank you, Chris and Adam!

Announcements – Possible Action Needed

Student Schedules and Schedule Change Request Process

Student Schedules will be available Friday, August 23rd by logging into Qmlativ. If students need a paper copy of their schedule, they can stop by the Counseling Office before school on Tuesday, September 3 to have one printed.

Criteria for schedule change requests include:

  • Hole in student’s schedule – these should all be filled before first day of school; however, if a hole remains on September 3rd, students should report to the Counseling Office during the class period in which they have the hole in schedule (e.g. no 3rd period class, student reports 3rd period)

  • Incorrect Placement (e.g. student is placed in Spanish 1 and has already taken it)

  • Not enrolled in course needed for graduation requirements

  • Enrolled in a course that student did not select in registration process*

*We reserve the right to change schedules in order to balance class sizes.

*We do not change classes based on teacher preference.

The schedule change request process will open on Tuesday, September 3rd and remain open through Friday, September 6th at 12pm, except for level changes (e.g. on level to AP, AP to on level, on level to Honors, Honors to on level) which are accepted through September 16th. Information and link to schedule change request form, which students must complete, will be sent out in our next newsletter. Please note that counselors will not be responding to emails or phone calls regarding schedule change requests before September 3rd, and students must complete the schedule change request form once available.

ParentSquare Access

All school and district communication will come through ParentSquare. To make sure you are connected and do not miss important information, please download the ParentSquare app.

  • Download the ParentSquare app (iOS - iOS Store / Android - Google Play Store) and then activate your account using the email address or cell number on file in Qmlativ.

  • Students can download the StudentSquare app (iOS - iOS Store / Android - Google Play Store) and then activate their accounts using their RSD email address.

The following links explain the different communication tools within ParentSquare and how to customize alert notifications:

If you have questions or need assistance accessing ParentSquare, please contact Tracie Kelly at kellyt@rsd407.org or (425) 844-4804.

Parking Lot Changes

Over the summer, we have made some changes to our CHS parking lots. First, you will notice new signage as you approach campus and at each entrance. If you’ve visited our campus before or are new to campus, our Visitor Parking is now on the front side of the building (second entrance) for easy access to the building’s main entrance.

Visitors on Campus Including Part-Time Students

Any individual who is not a current CHS student or CHS staff member must check in at the main office immediately upon arrival to campus. If your student is enrolled part-time at CHS, they should only be on campus during their scheduled classes during the school day. Those part-time students who participate in clubs and sports are fully welcome to be here outside the school day and of course, all are welcome for school events that occur outside school day. We need to be able to accurately account for students should an emergency occur during the school day.

Pick Up/Drop Off (see map)

We have lots of folks accessing our campus, including teenage drivers. Please be sure to follow the expectations at drop off and pick up of your student:

  • Please pull all the way forward into the drop off/pick up loop and advance as cars in front of you exit the loop. Do not use the first entrance which is for buses.

  • Please pull on to the gravel shoulder on the South side (opposite campus) of NE 150th once the loop is full and queue there. No car line should form on the North shoulder (CHS side of 150th).

  • Ensure you are pulled over to the side and NOT blocking the road for travel in front of CHS.

  • Ensure you follow any directives from flaggers/staff.

Paying Student Fees – Get an Early Start!

All student fees are now loaded to student accounts to be paid. Login to eFunds e~Funds for Schools (efundsforschools.com) to purchase an ASB card, pay student fees, purchase a yearbook, and load lunch money.

Family gate passes for CHS athletic events are available for purchase for only $150. A family pass gets 2 adults plus 3 children (K-8th grade) into all home regular season sports events for 2024-2025 (not valid for post season games). To purchase a family pass you can login to eFunds and click on optional fees. After you purchase your pass online, Shelly, our ASB Bookkeeper will create your family card. When it is ready, it can be picked up in the CHS front office by you or your student. Contact Shelly Campbell with any questions: CampbellS@rsd407.org or 425.844.4805. Still have questions/need help? Check out these videos!:

First Day Details – Tuesday, September 3rd!

  • School begins for all students at 7:35. Building doors open at 7:10. Please allow enough time for drop off that your student gets to class on time.

  • This first week students will be attending all six classes with no Early Release on Friday.

  • We will be reviewing how to be part of #OnePack with our student expectations on day one. This includes expectations related to tardies, attendance, lunchroom expectations and more.

CHS Picture Day – September 4

Student pictures will be taken during the school day on Wednesday, September 4th. Click here for instructions on how to order online. Please be aware students are not allowed to wear hats, scarves or items over their faces (outside of culturally-relevant items) that conceal their identity as school pictures are used to help identify students as needed.

Importance of On-Time Attendance

Did you know?

  • Students should miss no more than nine (9) days of school each year to stay engaged, successful and on track to graduation

  • By 9th grade, attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than 8th grade test scores

  • Missing 10%, or 2 days a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student’s academic success

What can you do?

  • Prioritize on-time attendance EVERY day

  • Help your teen maintain daily routines

  • Help your teen stay engaged by having open and regular conversations with them about school and how it’s going

  • Communicate with the school. Check Qmlativ for attendance tracking for your student. Let us know when your student will be absent.

Cell Phone Policy

Being focused in class is important for an authentic and engaging learning experience. Cell phones have become a constant disruption and distraction, so we want to remove that distraction so students can focus on the class. Cell phone use is allowed between classes and during assigned lunch.

The CHS Cell Phone Policy:

  • During class time, CHS students need to have their cell phones stored. They can choose the shared cell phone pouches, a class charging station or put away in their backpacks.

  • Cell phones will remain stored for the duration of a class period with the exception of specific teacher direction

  • Cell phones need to remain in the classroom when students leave during the class period for purposes of restroom or water fountain access, etc.

We encourage all Cedarcrest High School parents of fall, winter, and spring sport student-athletes to attend this informative evening. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to support your student-athletes and strengthen our community. It’s sure to be a great message and a great night!
